Abby's Hero Journey Story: Abby lives with Vanishing Midgut Syndrome, a very rare and complex condition. Because of this, her body is unable to absorb nutrition from food by mouth. To grow and thrive, Abby relies on a central line and receives 16 hours of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) each day. Her journey requires constant care and careful balance. Abby attends multiple therapies each week to support feeding, sensory development, and strength. Due to her medical needs, even minor illnesses can lead to serious complications, so her care team must remain vigilant in preventing infection. Despite these challenges, Abby continues to thrive in remarkable ways. She attends full-day Pre-K, has successfully transitioned into a regular classroom, and even participates in T-ball. Abby approaches life with excitement and determination, never letting her diagnosis define her. Abby is full of personality and joy. She loves singing, dancing, and reading, and enjoys watching Disney movies. She treasures time with her brothers, loves going shopping with her mom, and recently discovered how much she enjoys having her nails painted. Abby is rarely seen without a bow in her hair and embraces all things girly. Abby’s strength, resilience, and bright spirit make her a true hero. We are honored to have her as part of the Oklahoma’s Littlest Heroes family. 💛

Jemma's Hero Journey Story: At just three weeks old, Jemma’s life took a sudden and frightening turn when she stopped breathing and turned blue. From that moment on, her journey became filled with hospital stays, surgeries, and countless challenges. At 15 months old, Jemma was diagnosed with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood, a rare, one-in-a-million condition. This disease causes unpredictable episodes of paralysis that can last from minutes to weeks or even months, affecting any muscle in her body at any time. These episodes can be life-threatening and often occur without warning. Jemma’s care is complex and requires constant, around-the-clock attention. She relies on a central line for nutrition and has faced additional challenges including respiratory complications during paralysis episodes, developmental delays, and the need for an ostomy. She also lives with epilepsy and cognitive impairment. Despite everything she faces, Jemma’s light shines brightly. On her good days, Jemma is a joyful and energetic 4-year-old who loves to run and play with her brother, dance, and sing. Her happiness is contagious, and her spirit is truly inspiring. Jemma embodies resilience, courage, and determination. She is a powerful reminder of what it means to be a true hero, and we are so proud to have her as part of the Oklahoma’s Littlest Heroes family.
